The bite has heated up around the Edisto Beach area as we have been targeting and catching redfish, seatrout, flounder, ladyfish, and sharks inshore. We have been hitting the flats and deep banks with structure such as oysters that still have water at low tide. Low incoming tide has been producing the best over the past week. As the tide rises we have been using popping corks with fluorocarbon leaders to a jig head rigged with live shrimp. Drifting these corks in and around structure have been the ticket for redfish, trout, and flounder. For bonnet-head sharks around the shallows we have been rigging up a carolina rig using about 1/2 to 1oz of weight using around 100lb leader and circle hooks. We have been baiting with cut blue crab and shrimp. These toothy critters can’t resist. About the time you see one cruising the flats is about the time your rod will double over. Don’t pass up on the hot bonnet-head shark action this time of year. They provide a ton of excitement and I consider them “Redfish with Teeth”. Now, Go Wet a Line!
